  • 20000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)

    Walt Disney’s fun, live-action adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic science-fiction story features some of the best special effects produced in the 1950s. Captain Nemo, the commander of a futuristic submarine called the Nautilus, rescues the survivors of a shipwreck and takes them on an incredible journey far below the ocean’s surface. They encounter numerous wonders of the sea, including an enormous squid which attacks the ship in the film’s most unforgettable sequence. Academy Awards: Best Special Effects, Best Art/Set Direction.

    500 Days Of Summer (2009)

    After it looks as if she’s left his life for good this time, Tom Hansen reflects back on the just over one year that he knew Summer Finn. Despite being physically average in almost every respect, Summer had always attracted the attention of men, Tom included. For Tom, it was love at first sight when she walked into the greeting card company where he worked, she the new administrative assistant.

    Soon, Tom knew that Summer was the woman with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. Although Summer did not believe in relationships or boyfriends – in her assertion, real life will always ultimately get in the way – Tom and Summer became more than just friends. Through the trials and tribulations of Tom and Summer’s so-called relationship, Tom could always count on the advice of his two best friends, McKenzie and Paul. However, it is Tom’s adolescent sister, Rachel, who is his voice of reason. After all is said and done, Tom is the one who ultimately has to make the choice to listen or not.

    8 Mile (2002)

    A rap version of "Saturday Night Fever." B-Rabbit, a wannabe rapper from the wrong side of Detroit's 8 Mile, has problems: he dumps his girlfriend when she tells him she's pregnant; to save money to make a demo tape, he moves into his alcoholic mom's trailer; his job's a dead end, and he's just choked at the local head-to-head rap contest.

    Things improve when he meets Alex - an aspiring model headed for New York - and a fast-talking pal promises to set up the demo. Then new setbacks: Alex isn't faithful, mom rejects him, rifts surface with his friends, and he's mugged by rivals. Everything hinges on the next rap showdown at the club.

    An Education (2009)

    In the early 1960's, sixteen year old Jenny Mellor lives with her parents in the London suburb of Twickenham. On her father's wishes, everything that Jenny does is in the sole pursuit of being accepted into Oxford, as he wants her to have a better life than he. Jenny is bright, pretty, hard working but also naturally gifted. The only problems her father may perceive in her life is her issue with learning Latin, and her dating a boy named Graham, who is nice but socially awkward. Jenny's life changes after she meets David Goldman, a man over twice her age.

    David goes out of his way to show Jenny and her family that his interest in her is not improper and that he wants solely to expose her to cultural activities which she enjoys. Jenny quickly gets accustomed to the life to which David and his constant companions, Danny and Helen, have shown her, and Jenny and David's relationship does move into becoming a romantic one. However, Jenny slowly learns more about David, and by association Danny and Helen, and specifically how they make their money.

    Jenny has to decide if what she learns about them and leading such a life is worth forgoing her plans of higher eduction at Oxford.

    Beauty And The Beast (2009)

    Blessed (2009)

    A young detective Ike, struggles with his purpose in life. In the middle of an investigation, he finds the man he is looking for (The Driver) in an unexpected way.

    The Driver is struggling with what he wants in life as well. His family is threatened by his corrupt associates. His paranoia leads him to believe that the wrong person is putting his family in danger (Ike). Throughout the day Ike plays the hero to the Driver's family. Although neither of them understand the full extent of sacrifice until the day's end.

    Butterfly Effect (2004)

    Evan Treborn grows up in a small town with his single, working mother and his friends. He suffers from memory blackouts where he suddenly finds himself somewhere else, confused. Evan's friends and mother hardly believe him, thinking he makes it up just to get out of trouble.

    As Evan grows up he has less of these blackouts until he seems to have recovered. Since the age of seven he has written a diary of his blackout moments so he can remember what happens.

    One day at college he starts to read one of his old diaries, and suddenly a flashback hits him like a brick!

    City Of Motherly Love (2010)

    Young overworked, underpaid, Ashley Freeman, caught in a struggle against time, faces the hardships of being a single parent to her son, Davie. In a tragic turn of events her son is killed leaving her left with nothing more then what she had previously desired most, time.

    But time now is filled with the torments of the abandonment of her son's father, the sudden and violent death of her only child, and a shattered past, which ultimately becomes a twisted race she must endure to rescue her own life.

    Coyote Ugly (2000)

    When young Violet finally follows her dream and moves to New York to become a songwriter, she knows little about the big city.

    All her efforts to get a demo tape to a producer are useless, additionally her apartment is broken in to, leaving her with nothing. But a coincidence leads her to Coyote Ugly, a night club where only beautiful women call the shots, using their female attraction to drive the guests just crazy.

    Violet manages to get a position and starts learning the ways of the city. After getting in trouble because of a misunderstanding, Violet's new friend Kevin tries to rid her of her stage fear so that she can perform her songs herself.

    Violet's father Bill does not like her new job as well as her leaving him, but it's all part of growing up.

    Cracks (2009)

    Within the confines of a strict, all-girls English boarding school (circa 1930s), a clique students participate on the swim team not only to pass the time, but to be close to their swimming instructor, the enigmatic, yet charismatic, Miss G (Eva Green). While Miss G originally encourages their idolization and crack (crush) on her, the teachers attention is quickly focused on the arrival of an exotic and beautiful Spanish foreign pupil, Fiamma (María Valverde).

    As the new girl rebuffs her classmates, and further rejects Miss Gs interest, her teammates begin to grow jealous of Miss Gs fascination with Fiamma, and resent the latters distain of their instructor, accumulating in the inexplicable disappearance of Fiamma.
